Is being single really such a horrible thing?

Image
Do you ever wonder if being single isn't such a bad thing? Doing what you want when you want with who you want and where you want. If I wake up and feel like going for a bike ride, I do. If I feel like working on said bikes while doing laundry and listening to Ella, guess what? I can. This may seem odd coming from a person who's clearly on a dating site. However, hear me out. I'm not arguing against a relationship. Far from it. As the saying goes, no (wo)man is an island unto themselves. We need others to get through this life. Hell, if I tried to do things on my own, I'd either be dead or in jail by now. What I am saying is, there seems to be a very high percentage of people who go head-long into a relationship, any relationship, just so they aren't alone. Because they are afraid of being alone. As if being alone is a disease and if you catch it, it spreads. As if there is no cure. As I was working on this post, someone sent m a link to a website, quirkyalone.net ....

Most everybody knows how to ride a bike. That doesn't mean they are well-versed in knowing the rules of the road. Knowledge is what's needed next. We have more people getting one bikes, great. Now, we need to make sure said people on the bikes stay on bikes and a good way to retain them is to inform them. You know, the whole, knowledge is power thing. The League of American Bicyclists is a good resource to start out with. They have a section simply titled " Bike Education ". Start there is my suggestion. Though, realize this, laws regarding bikes vary from state to state, so...

Big screen

I don't get to see many movies in the theatre. Not because I don't like to, in fact I love seeing movies in the theatre. If I had the money and the time, I'd see movies at the theatre on a regular basis. Certainly more often than I do. As is it, the constraints of being a single man and a Dad take precedent. Regardless, I have always loved seeing movies on the big screen. I have such vivid memories of seeing movies as a kid at the theatre. Maybe it's because it was a treat. Perhaps it's because I was a kid, and it was such a different experience than anything else I'd ever done. Here are a few memorable movies from my childhood that kindled my love for the big screen. E.T. -The Extra Terrestrial : I believe I saw this with my Mom and Dad at my hometown theatre. Maybe my younger sister and my cousin. I know my cousin was there, because I have memories of him being scared shitless of E.T. Outside of that, I remember being awe-struck by seeing the movie. At ...
